In this scenario of generosity and unconditional love, 'Mundo Deportivo' has had the privilege of interviewing Alejandro and Catalina Escandroli, father and daughter, who are not only active volunteers at Animals Sense Sostre, but are also about to take a step further: the adoption of Aya, a shelter dog who has conquered their hearts.

“We have been here since the end of 2016,” says Alejandro, recalling the beginnings of his connection with the protector. “Cata was 6 years old. I had had several interactions with dogs, but at first I was very afraid. Even so, I ended up wanting one at that age. He told me that it was a very big responsibility. At work I had a colleague who went to the shelter and she suggested coming so I could understand what it entailed,” he explains.

Catalina, with the wisdom provided by years and experience, shares her perspective: “It's almost therapy. It made me feel good, motivated. I learned to organize myself, to manage areas, to decide which dogs to walk. I came happy every morning, although it was harder to get up for school.” He also highlights the deep gratitude they receive from the animals: “The animals give us a lot back, they are very grateful for anything we can do for them for a couple of hours, a weekend…”.

The idea of adopting a dog was in the family from the beginning, but the perfect moment took a while to arrive. “We knew we wanted to adopt a dog almost from the beginning. But it wasn't always the right time. It took us years to get the house ready,” confesses Alejandro. The connection with Aya was almost instantaneous. “I met her by taking her for a walk. They told me she pulled a lot, but she stayed calm. I came home and said we had to see her. Then she met her too and we connected right away,” he adds.

The adoption process, as Alejandro details, is exhaustive but necessary. “There is a form where you explain your situation and your conditions. The protectors usually check that you have a suitable environment. In our case, they already know us as volunteers and trust us,” he comments.

Alejandro and Catalina's position regarding adoption is firm and exemplary. “We do not believe that living beings should be sold. It is sad that this industry exists and then there are shelters full due to abandonment,” they say with conviction.
