Ibiza prepares for the great swimming festival: World Cup and Spanish Championships come together

From April 24 to 26, Santa Eulària des Riu will be the epicenter of open waters with the participation of the best Spanish swimmers

The month of April begins with an unmissable event for Spanish swimming: the Ibiza World Cup, which will also serve as the Spanish Championship. From the 24th to the 26th, Santa Eulària des Riu becomes the scene of one of the most anticipated open water competitions on the national and international calendar.

The Royal Spanish Swimming Federation has confirmed a broad call for eighteen swimmers. Among them, fourteen will compete in the senior category and four in the junior category, with the defending champion Ángela Martínez leading a team with notable names such as María de Valdés, Paula Otero, Mateo García, Carlos Garach and Mario Méndez.

The competitive calendar is clearly defined: the 10 km will be swum on Friday the 24th, the 3 km 'knockout' on Saturday the 25th and the 5 km on Sunday the 26th. All of these events will also count towards the Spanish Championships, increasing the intensity of the competition.

In the absolute women's category, Ángela Martínez will defend her title in the premier event, while María de Valdés will make her long-awaited return after an ankle injury that prevented her from competing in 2025. Paula Otero, for her part, arrives in excellent shape after outstanding recent performances. The selection is completed by Júlia Coll, Ariadna Malo, Clara Martínez de Salinas, Alba Rubio and the European medalist Candela Sánchez.

Among the men, Mateo García, ninth in the first stage of Somabay, will lead the team. He will be accompanied by Mario Méndez, Cristóbal Vargas and Joan Macario, who will compete in the three distances. Carlos Garach and Alonso González will participate only in the elimination test, while Garach returns to open water after returning to the pool.

The junior performance also promises emotions. Yerai Amado, Grau Palazón, Helena Castillo and Carlota del Río will compete in the 7.5 km on Friday, the 3 km 'knockout' on Saturday and the 5 km on Sunday, standing out as the quarry of the future in Spanish swimming.
